Dear Student,
We are pleased to announce that the Haas Diversity Research Center- formerly the Berkeley Diversity Research Initiative (BDRI)- has its first director, john. a. powell. Professor powell's scholarship focuses on civil rights and civil liberties, particularly in the areas of race, regionalism, ethnicity, poverty and the law. He is renowned for using his scholarship to alter the mechanisms that reproduce and maintain social cleavages in the service of instigating social change and justice.
Professor powell would like to share with you his vision for the HDRC and the resources that the center has, and to hear from each of you. You, or 1-2 other representatives from your organization or group, are invited to a campus meeting of student groups on Wednesday, April 4th, 2012 from 12 noon - 2pm in Eshleman Library. Lunch will be provided.
Please RSVP by this Friday, March 30th to mmckinney@berkeley.edu with the name of the organization and the students that will be in attendance.
We look forward to building community with you.
Best,
Maxine McKinney de Royston
